Ministerial Relief
The Pension Fund of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) faithfully assists the financial needs of the church's active and retired clergy and lay employees. The Pension Fund, like the innkeeper,* welcomes everybody. It ensures the long-term benefits for a majority of our pastors who were fortunate to have served churches that invested in their retirement.
The Pension Fund, as innkeeper, assists those servants of the church who ministered in small congregations and in the mission field. In many cases they have not been able to invest in the golden years of their pastors. Others served for very small salaries and their pensions are inadequate to provide a reasonable standard of living.
For 110 years the Ministerial Relief Fund has been the vessel utilized to provide care and to say "thank you" from a grateful church to faithful servants of the church. In giving to this fund, you are joining the Pension Fund in fulfilling its role as innkeeper.
Your gift to Ministerial Relief can make a difference.
Your gift will:
Provide an income that helps a pastor live life with dignity. Supplemental gifts currently bring pension and gift income combined up to $14,400 for retirees and $11,800 for surviving spouses. (Currently the Pension Fund is providing approximately 550 supplemental gift grants to those in need.)
Provide a regular monthly income for those who have no retirement pension. (Currently the Pension Fund is providing approximately 64 Ministerial Relief Pensions.)
Provide emergency grants for large unexpected expenses (i.e. medical bills, funeral expenses, etc.)
